Ford Focus BEV

BEV Ford Focus is a new prototype that shows the American flag in Frankfurt with a electric propulsion system using batteries. It will be the first model of the brand in the market in Europe with ultra low CO2 emissions.

The project has been developed by the brand in collaboration with the British Government, through a consortium consisting of Ford, Scottish and Southern Energy and Strathclyde University who seek sustainability of the technology for potential future application in the range of cars passenger Ford of Europe. The test run is conducted by a team of drivers that Hillingdon residents evaluated.

Acronyms BEV that name is the name of Ford's compact accompany other brand models and are an abbreviation of Battery Electric Vehicles. BEV Ford Focus is the first prototype of this type which will expand the fleet of test vehicles over the next year 2010.

Fifteen units will be the prototypes for these tests to be performed under normal conditions, with five passengers and luggage on some occasions.

With electric motor
Based on the current Ford Focus sold in Europe, will mount a fully electric motor will be supplied by Magna. This technology is adapted to the new architecture of a new generation global compact segment also marketed in the U.S. market in 2011.

The electric motor is mounted on the chassis of a permanent magnet with a maximum capacity of one hundred kilowatts and a maximum torque of 320 Newton meters. Maximum range is 120 kilometers and can reach a top speed of 136 km / h.

The battery pack that powers the electric motor are lithium ion batteries with a capacity of 23 kilowatts per hour and will take from six to eight hours to be fully charged. You can connect via a plug to a conventional power grid of 230 volts.

This prototype incorporates an electric air conditioning system with an air conditioning compressor high-voltage and mounted on 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid has been launched recently in the U.S. market.
